Meet Nicholas!

At Everon, we believe that our team is our greatest asset, and we’re thrilled to launch our “Staff Spotlight” series! We’ll introduce you to a member of the Everon team who helps make our work possible.

It’s a chance to get to know the people behind the screens, hear their tips, and learn about their unique interests.

Today we’re spotlighting Nicholas Best, one of our IT support stars. Nicholas has a knack for solving complex tech challenges, bringing patience and expertise to the team. In our chat with him, Nicholas shared some of the most common tech issues he encounters, his favourite gadgets, and even a few surprises about working in IT.

Get to know Nicholas

1. What’s one common tech issue you encounter, and what tips do you have to help others avoid it?

Nicholas:

One of the biggest recurring tech issues I see? ‘I forgot my password!’ It’s not surprising—between work accounts, personal accounts, and everything in between, it’s easy to lose track. But in an IT landscape where security should be everyone’s number one priority, forgetting passwords can be a big issue.

My go-to tips:

  • Use a Password Manager: A good password manager like Keeper can store and even generate secure passwords, saving you time and brain space.
  • Two-Factor Authentication: This adds an extra layer of security, so even if you misplace a password, you’ve got that backup layer.
  • Avoid Reuse: Try not to reuse passwords; it’s tempting, but it’s a security risk. Unique passwords keep accounts safer.

Takeaway: With a few adjustments, you can keep things secure and stress-free.”

2. Are there any tech gadgets or tools you love outside of work?

Nicholas:
“Outside of work, I’m all about VR and sim racing. My VR headset and sim racing setup are my go-to gadgets at home. With VR, I can jump between virtual worlds, exploring immersive environments and even sneaking in some fitness with VR sports. But when it comes to adrenaline, combining VR with my sim racing gear takes the lead! With a racing wheel, pedals, and even a custom chair, it’s as close as you can get to the track without actually leaving the house.

Fun Perk: Both VR and sim racing aren’t just entertaining—they actually sharpen reflexes and decision-making, skills I definitely bring back to the IT world.”

3. What’s something surprising about working in IT support that people might not expect?

Nicholas:
“People might not realize that a big part of IT support—especially with cloud systems—is like detective work in a virtual world. Since we can’t just follow physical wires, we’re tracing through cloud configurations, permissions, and virtual networks to find the source of an issue. It’s part logic, part intuition, and it can feel like hunting for clues in an invisible maze of settings and integrations.

Fun Fact: With cloud troubleshooting, every day feels like a new mystery to solve, and finding the answer is as rewarding as finding that missing piece of a puzzle!”

4. What do you enjoy about working remotely, and what challenges come with it?

Nicholas:
“What I enjoy: Remote work lets me work from anywhere, which is a dream for someone who loves tech and travel. I get to design my own workspace, set up wherever I want, and ensure I’m super productive in my own environment. Plus, the commute is unbeatable!

Challenges: Staying connected with the team can be tricky, especially when everyone’s in different time zones. It takes some coordination and intentional communication to make sure we’re all on the same page. This, although challenging, provides good growth for discipline and communication skills, which is essential in any IT role.”

Thank you, Nicholas, for giving us a glimpse into your world! We’re lucky to have someone so passionate and skilled on the Everon team. Stay tuned for our next spotlight, where we’ll introduce you to another fantastic member of the Everon team!
